A clear look at the information OwnFeed uses to help make YouTube feel a little more intentional.
Developer preview. OwnFeed is being developed; hosted accounts, billing, and the account-deletion process are not yet publicly launched. This page describes the current preview and the intended hosted setup and will be updated before launch.
Overview
OwnFeed is a browser extension that helps you hide YouTube content and layout elements according to your choices. Some controls run in your browser. Optional AI-assisted topic filtering sends information to the backend you configure and its AI provider.
The interactive feed on this website is an illustration. It does not read or filter your YouTube account.
Information we use
On your device
The extension reads information from supported YouTube pages to identify videos, channels, and layout elements. Depending on the feature, this can include video IDs and titles, channel names or IDs, descriptions, and playlist or collection information.
Your saved topics, layout settings, manual channel blocks, and personal corrections are kept in your browser profile. Session credentials and temporary job handles, when applicable, are stored in browser session storage. These local preferences are not currently synchronized between devices by OwnFeed.
When AI filtering is used
The extension sends the topics you choose and relevant video or channel information to the configured OwnFeed backend so it can evaluate whether content matches your preferences. Requests can include titles, channel details, description snippets, and, for channel evaluation, sample uploads or a correction you supplied. The backend sends the relevant text to TypeSafe for AI judgments. Using a local backend still sends AI requests to TypeSafe when that feature is used.
Accounts and service records
If hosted accounts are enabled, Amazon Cognito handles sign-in and verified email. The hosted service associates access, job, and cache records with an account identifier. It can also record operational information such as request status, timing, and usage counts to run and secure the service.
Storage and retention
Browser settings remain in the browser profile until you change or remove them. In the intended hosted setup, job input is removed on normal completion; completed results and failed-job payloads are configured to expire after about one day. Physical deletion can happen later because expiry is asynchronous.
Operational logs are configured for seven days, daily aggregate metrics for 40 days, and monthly budget records for 400 days. Billing identifiers and related records may be retained for billing operations if billing is enabled. Provider and hosting retention may differ. These periods describe the current configuration and may change before launch.
Your choices
You can change your topics, remove channel blocks, pause filtering, and manage layout settings in OwnFeed. The extension’s cache control clears cached checks while keeping saved topics and channel blocks. For hosted judgment caches, a clear request invalidates the account’s current cache; older records are removed later and are not necessarily erased immediately.
You can sign out and remove the extension from your browser. A self-service account deletion and data-export process is not yet available in the developer preview; those processes are being prepared before public launch.
